Uh...um... OK, I haven't done much with the site since last weekend. It was my birthday and I slacked off. I did manage to upload the last three issues of the eZine and all the supporting files, though. It may not look like much but it is amazingly time consuming, fixing all the links and all. I also customized the error pages so that they'll be slightly more helpful (and friendly) than the generic (and useless) File Not Found message you might run into here. I am behind on reviews ("John Quixote" and "I Shrink, Therefore I Am" are pending), but I hope to get caught up soon.

Wait! There is something new. Check out this Scarran Retrospective, and see how much Scarrans have changed over the past 3 seasons.

I do have a copy of Issue #7 of The Official Farscape Magazine which will go to one lucky subscriber on August 15, so watch your Inbox for an email with the subject "Congratulations from FarscapeWeekly!"

Again, and still -- it will be a while before all the old stuff gets put back up. I will continue to post new content as frequently as possible. If there is any old content you'd like access to, just send me an email and I will set you up with direct links.

Please feel free to forward this eZine to anyone you feel it may interest. If you would like to subscribe, unsubscribe, or change your subscription address, send an email "subscribe" in the subject line.

For a glimpse at the site's history through March 2002, take a look the eMail Update Archive and see how far we've come.

For comments, questions, or submissions, eMail jhedman@alum.mit.edu.

Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring DVD Available now. Buy it. I know, it has nothing to do with Farscape, but still. You really should buy it.

Dani Moure over at the smashing FarscapeWorld (one of my top favorite sites) has posted some awesome first-looks at Alderac Entertainment's new Farscape role playing game (RPG). Check it out, they look fantastic.

Farscape has a new home in Oz! (Repeated from the last issue, for those readers who didn't get the late update) Rumors were circulating that Foxtel had replaced Nine Network as a production partner of Farscape, and that seasons 2 and 3 would soon be airing in Australia on Fox8. Fox8 would make a terrific home for Farscape, since it already showcases several popular genre shows. I was unable to find anything on the web to substantiate this rumor, so I sent an email to the PR folks at Foxtel, and Elizabeth Hunter forwarded their 25 July 02 press release announcing the new arrangements. As of the date of this posting, the press release has not been posted to Foxtel's website yet, but it should get up there eventually.

Convention news...amazingly enough, there were no emails from Creation Entertainment last week, but I'll include the links here for reader convenience. Click here for Creation's Convention Calendar. The News & Updates page at the SCIFI Channel's Farscape page lists convention appearances by actor.

Did you know...
The miniaturization plot device has been around for quite a while. The earliest reference I could find was in the 1866 classic, Alice in Wonderland. Lewis Carroll's Alice was subjected to more organic shrinking methods, though, first drinking from the "Drink Me" bottle, and then nibbling on one side of a gigantic mushroom. Shrink Rays are wildly popular in comics, with the earliest mention in 1943 in All Star Comics; the Justice Society of America defeated the evil Brain Wave. Later, a similar scenario played out in 1958 Action Comics; in 1978, it was Superman (and Supergirl) defeating Brainiac. Other evil shrink-ray-weilding bad guys have appeared in the Star Trek comic (#25, July 1974) and Sonic the Hedgehog (December 1993).

On screen, being shrunk is either some huge government-funded science project that some other government wants to steal, or it is played for humorous effect. The earliest example of the former is 1966's Fantastic Voyage, with 1987's Innerspace cast in the same mold. 1989's Rick Moranis vehicle Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (referenced by Crichton) and its sequels, along with the recent Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius (2001), are examples of the more light-hearted approach.

If any readers out there know of an earlier reference to people being miniaturized, please send me an email. While there are dozens of stories involving already-miniature people (Gulliver's Travels, The Borrowers), I couldn't think of anything earlier than Alice in which someone was actually shrunk and then later restored to normal size, nor did I find any earlier references throughout extensive searches.

Quote of the Week:
"I've been around long enough to know how ignorant I am. I don't assume the universe obeys my preconceptions. I know a frelling fact when it hits me in the face."
-- Rygel, "I Shrink, Therefore I Am"

Free Cool Stuff
Two entries this week, revisiting some old favorites with great new stuff.

First, if you don't know who VenomSoup is, shame on you. It's very difficult to summarize the qualities of this long-time Scaper in a short paragraph like this, but I can list a couple of his notable accomplishments: he's the owner of the Farscape WebRing, and the creative force behind the bodacious Space Babes website. The latest addition to his CV is video editor. Check out his "estrogen free" Farscape vid, BodyScape, with music by Drowing Pool, on DallaScapers' ever-awesome FarscapeFantasy. (D'you think I could fit any more links in that paragraph?)

Still looking for more free cool stuff? Don't you people have lives? OK, this should keep you busy for a while: the hardworking peoples over at KarlsWeb are happy to announce KWeb 2.0. In other words, they've completely redesigned the place and there's tons of new content as well. One thing I noticed right off the bat was a newly expanded costuming page, with patterns and instructions. Be sure I'll be bookmarking that and sending it out again in time for upcoming Halloween parties.

Have you found some free cool stuff? Do you have some free cool stuff you'd like to share? Send an eMail!

No Recurring Characters this week, but check out this Scarran Retrospective for a look at how Scarrans have changed over the seasons.

No Repeat Performers this week, either.

8/09 A Perfect Muder - new
8/16 TBD - new
8/23 Unrealized Reality - new

SciFi's ScheduleBot has still not been updated with the new episode titles; I pulled "A Perfect Murder" from TVGuide.com.

There will be no new episode the weekend of 8/30, Labor Day Weekend. SCIFI traditionally runs movies that entire weekend. Throughout September, the SciFi Channel will be running double doses of newly-aquired Stargate SG-1, including a chain reaction September 27. Traditionally SciFi schedules movies and specials in October, so it's looking like it will be November before we see anymore Farscape.
