The Score
updated through 4.11, Unrealized Reality

This episode-by-episode review lists the conflicts between the Good Guys (usually Moya's crew, but sometimes their friends), the Bad Guys, and how things worked out. If we came out on top, we get a point. If we're clearly hurting, we don't. There are a few instances where it's a wash, and they don't add to our total score, either. We also tally the number of friends and foes we've collected along the way.

If you've got a comment, disagree with a call, or notice an ommision, please send Feedback. Check back after each new episode for the updated totals. Thanks!

Score: 53 out of 75
Unrealized Reality:
Uhhh... haven't we been here before? Crichton's hanging out in space. Alone. There are a few upsides: 1) he's alive, 2) he has found Earth, and 3) he just got a passing grade in Wormholes 101. However, what we are left with is yet another unresolved situation, and so The Score Remains the Same. Oh, and let's add The Ancients back to the Allies list. Sure, they're not exactly around right now, but they'll be back soon. They're watching our boy Crichton and let's be honest: they like what they see, or he wouldn't still be alive right now.

Potential Allies: 12
These are folks who have been helped by, and/or are likely to help, our crew out. The list is limited to people for whom there is actually chance of running across them again. For example, Lyneea from "I, ET" is omitted from this list, even though she was definitely friendly.
The Drak, Tavleks, Illanics, Volmae's people, Staanz, Aquarans, the Builders, Neeri, Ralix, Jool, Hokothians, Ancients.

Known/Potential Enemies: 19
Along the same lines, these are people who are not sympathetic, and possibly downright hostile, to our crew, and they are all still out there:
Peacekeepers (generic), The Consortium of Trau, Scorvians, Sheyangs, Maldis, bounty hunters, Tahleen's people, Zenetan pirates (if any remain), Nebari establishment, Halosians, Plokavians, Natira, Kampeks, wormhole aliens, Furlow, Charrids, Commandant Mele-on Grayza aka Commandant Cleavage; Hokothians, Scarrans.

Season 4

Unrealized Reality
Score: 53/75, Potential Allies: 12, Known/Potential Enemies: 19
As with most cliffhanging "part one" episodes, we can't really update the Score yet because we have no idea how things are going to work out. Still, let's add The Ancients back to the Allies list; if they weren't friendly, Crichton would be dead by now. Things are looking up, considering that John is floating in orbit around the Earth: he's got his wormhole mojo mostly working now. At least, let's hope so. (I did not consider Crichton's encounter with Einstein to be a conflict... more like that crash course in Wormholes 101 he's been dying to sign up for.)

Coup by Clam
Score: 53/75, Potential Allies: 11, Known/Potential Enemies: 19
Poor Moya. Tormented Space is kicking the crap out of her, so the crew finally stop at a planet where she can get some additional shielding installed. Too bad the locals are another bunch of xenophobic idiots; this batch adds mysogeny to its list of unendearing characteristics. To top it all off, being blackmailed via food poisoning by a doctor is just not a good way to start a planetary visit -- and things only get worse when Aeryn and Jool get captured, and Crichton and Rygel have to dress for the occasion to rescue them. All I can say is, thanks to the writers for giving Scorpius the constitution of a battle ship.

Good Guys Bad Guys Score Comments

A Prefect Murder
Score: 52/74, Potential Allies: 11, Known/Potential Enemies: 19
On a bugless planet, both Chiana and Sikozu get lucky while Aeryn and Crichton become homicidal maniacs -- if only for a few minutes at a time. D'Argo's negotiating skills are given a work out to no avail, and everyone else is mercifully (from their perspectives) absent. There were no "big picture" confrontations in this episode, we didn't make any new friends, nor did we piss off anyone sufficiently that we can consider them new enemies, either. That's OK, although it would be nice if something would happen next week.

I Shrink, Therefore I Am
Score: 52/74, Potential Allies: 11, Known/Potential Enemies: 19
Crichton comes through in spades, with a little help from Scorpius, Chiana's slow-sight, and DRD 1812. Sikozu gets a wake-up call to Reality from Rygel (go, Ryg!), and Noranti, praise TPTB, spends nearly the entire episode floating outside Moya's tier 3 airlock in a vaccuum coma. Can we keep her there permanently? Big kudos to Pilot for the most excellent status report he delivered ("Aeryn's writing... poetry," through "Rygel's not hungry"), which told Crichton everything he needed to know about the real state of affairs on Moya.

Score: 51/73, Potential Allies: 11, Known/Potential Enemies: 18
Well, that was an interesting romp through virtual reality. But nothing really happened, right? I mean, it would be kind of useful if Rygel could use his butt as a flame-thrower in "real life", but alas, he can't. And what's up with Stark? All of a sudden he hates Crichton because Zhaan martyred herself? Hmmm. I contemplated adding him to the Enemies list but he's such a welnitz I really can't take him seriously. I'd give us a bonus point for this episode simply because we got about 2 whole minutes of the real Zhaan, the lovely Virginia Hey, but that would be cheating.

Natural Election
Score: 51/73, Potential Allies: 11, Known/Potential Enemies: 18
A "bottle" episode, meaning that there are no guest stars and no exotic locations. Consequently, there is no one to add to either the allies or enemies lists. One thing I really hate about this kind of episode is that invariably, Pilot and/or Moya get the crap knocked out of them.

Score: 49/71, Potential Allies: 10, Known/Potential Enemies: 17
Huzzah! Crichton puts Grayza in her place (quite literally), Elack clobbers two out of three Marauders, and Crichton, Chiana, and Jool correctly estimate those crucial 600 motras and re-activate the Darnaz Probes, which, miraculously and instantaneously corrects the planet's magnetics. *Whew* Sadly, Elack and Auntie Pilot suicide (hastening the inevitable) and yet get almost no on-screen recognition for their bravery. Jool elects to stay behind with the re-activated priests; I have the feeling her character will pop up at some crucial point later, in time-honored deus ex machina fashion, to explain the link between humans and Sebaceans and Interions, and thereby saving someone's ass. You think? She's definitely on our side, and not part of the crew, so we add her to the Allies list. Oh, and once again, Crichton & Co have made a significant change to the local government: Arnessk was uninhabitable, but now it's not, and they even managed to bring back the previous bigwigs. I definitely have to start keeping track of these things.

Good Guys Bad Guys Score Comments
Crichton & Co Grayza & co 1 The Hepple oil is no match for the bug gut juice that Crichton snorts, fortunately. It's also great good luck that Grayza's Marauder crews can't hit the broadside of a barn, and are quite vulnerable to our ladies' charms... and kicks to the head.

What Was Lost, part 1: Sacrifice
Score: 48/70, Potential Allies: 9, Known/Potential Enemies: 17
Score holds steady for part 1, even though it kinda looks as if Crichton has lost to Grayza; Scorpius definitely has, but we're not keeping tabs on him. Since we don't know what it is she wants (besides Crichton's luscious bod), it's hard to say if the Good Guys have actually lost anything, other than the Moral High Ground. We've definitely lost a boatload of goodwill for Jool when she displays her complete lack of spine and fails to stick up for D'Argo. We're also apparently about to lose Elack and Auntie Pilot for good, and soon. It remains to be seen if Crichton retains any of his wits at all. We'll have to see if he lets that damned Old Woman come within three feet of him any time in the near future, assuming, of course, that he swims to shore after that oh-so-dramatic (oh, please) jump from the cliff.

Crichton Kicks
Score: 48/70, Potential Allies: 9, Known/Potential Enemies: 17
Oooo-kay. Crichton has found a home-away-from-home aboard the failing Elack, and befriended Auntie Pilot, a complete dear, but don't you just want to pour her a cup of tea and tuck her in? Seriously, though... we pick up Sikozu, but she's not exactly useful (yet), and get back Sparky and Pip. Some incredibly bizarre machinations do the trick and they're able to stop the grody Grudeks from harvesting Elack's neural tissues. Back in the Big Picture, Chiana brings news that Commandant Grayza is out to get them all, so it's back to Square One for our gang, running from the Peacekeepers and anyone else looking to make a quick buck by turning them in.

Dog with Two Bones
Score: 47/69, Potential Allies: 9, Known/Potential Enemies: 17
OK, I loved it. There were no big picture changes... although there may well be when the threads are all wound up. Moya has been sucked down a wormhole, leaving John floating in space, alone. Who is responsible? Well, my guess would be those pesky wormhole aliens we first met in "Self-Inflicted Wounds", but we'll have to wait and see. I suppose we could chalk up another point for D'Argo's complete destruction of that rogue leviathan, who was sort of a local governing force... but I think that's stretching it, so we'll just keep the numbers at the status quo for now.

Into the Lion's Den, part 2: Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
Score: 47/69, Potential Allies: 9, Known/Potential Enemies: 17
Scoring this episode was tough and really points up the weaknesses in this system. Perhaps during the hiatus I'll have a chance to review from the beginning and come up with something that makes more sense. In the end, I was left awarding our guys a point for defeating Scorpius and the command carrier, even though we (apparently) have lost Crais and Talyn. I didn't feel right knocking down the Score on that account, especially since Crais and Talyn willingly sacrificed themselves to keep wormhole technology out of Scorpius's hands. Still, this was a tough call. I also wanted to knock one off the enemies list, but since Scorpius never appeared there as an individual, I couldn't do it! Inconsistencies abound here. I'm sorry.

You get the sense of an impending showdown, and it's not just because of the ubiquitous SCIFI Channel ads for the "explosive season finale", either. However, nothing much has happened so far... except for Crichton pointing that blaster at Commandant "Cleavage", and making himself a new enemy. Something about the way she said "You shouldn't have pointed that gun at me," in that extra-menacing way, makes me rank her right up there with Scorpius as an adversary. But wait, you ask, shouldn't we count the jet-pack battle between Crichton and Reljik? Nah, that's just another PK lackey doing his master's bidding, and losing his life in the process. Doesn't change anything in the big picture.

Score: 46/68, Potential Allies: 9, Known/Potential Enemies: 16
Another uneventful episode, as far as "the big picture" goes; this episode was devoted to an unfortunate set-piece and some lovely personal interactions. Unfortunately, we did lose Talyn, and so must drop him off the Allies list. On the upside, the crew didn't accumulate any new enemies this time.

Bad times on Talyn: Furlow, long thought to be at least an ally-for-pay, is now definitely on the "Hates Us" list, especially as she is completely screwed with respect to her deals-in-progress: Aeryn destroyed her lab, including her computer, and John got the displacement engine. Furlow was lucky to escape alive, but unless the two words "offsite backup" were part of her everday vocabulary, she's back to Square One, in wormhole terms. We lose another ally in The Ancients, now safely tucked away at the end of a wormhole somewhere, with neither the desire nor the strength to return.
