Lava's a Many Splendored Thing
Season 4, episode 4

Note: this is a mini-review to fill the gap until I get a chance to catch up with the full review.

This episode successfully reverted to classic, season one Farscape style. It featured a starving crew, bodily functions and fluids (and not the nice ones, either), plans that don't work, technology know one has seen before, and a general attitude of "Can you believe this is happening?"

Now, whether or not you like that sort of thing is a matter of personal preference. I loved it. It was completely lacking in substance, although Crichton & Co did manage to befriend another set of weird-looking aliens. Speaking of which, the sets were nifty, the amber effect was pretty cool, and there was some great CGI of Lo'la (D'Argo's ship) towing Crichton's module. There were a couple of pricelessly funny moments, including Noranti's dance and Crichton and D'Argo's reactions.

"Lava's" doesn't attain the brilliance of "Crackers Don't Matter", nor does it attempt any character development of note, save continuous sparring between Chiana and Sikozu. Still, I'm not knocking it, having found it fun, surprising original, and an appealing change of pace from the ultra-heavy themes that have come to dominate Farscape's storylines.
