Promises
Season 4, episode 5

Note: this is a mini-review to fill the gap until I get a chance to catch up with the full review.

Well, this was a maddening episode. Crichton asks all the right questions, bless him, but most of them go unanswered.

When Lo'la's company finally meet up with Moya and Pilot again, they find that Aeryn and Scorpius are already there. Aeryn is suffering heat delirium, and Scorpius saved her life. Thus begins an episode in which more questions are generated per scene than any other I can recall. The character interactions alone would be enough to sustain the episode, but the additional threat of yet another new alien race trying to get some information out of Aeryn puts everyone in a pressure cooker with no time to talk about anything. Oh, and let's not forget that Cmdt Grayza, still stinging from the humiliation she suffered at Crichton's hands at Arnessk, is out for blood, and actively doing something about it.

For once, and written way against type, the convoluted plan to make everything right again goes off without a hitch. That's not supposed to happen, this is Farscape! Someone must not have read the memo. However, the CGI guys are rockin' and rollin' this year; we must have a bigger budget, because once again the effects are outstanding.

Changes abound aboard Moya. Scorpius is kept under lock and key but still has useful connections. Sikozu's book smarts come in handy again, even though no one besides Scorpius can stand her, especially after she insults Pilot. Aeryn, quite frankly, looks terrible with a new, much harsher look, and she endears herself to no one by her non-response to Crichton's question about her pregnancy.

So the long-awaited lover's reunion, while resolving some issues, leaves other, more important questions still twisting in the wind. Arg.
